Afterlands: After the Children by Boots

An Indie Book Review by Joseph Poopinski
4 stars

Cowabunga! As the Ninja Turtles work together despite differences & occasional disagreements, so too do Nix, Laria, Hyrhyn & Juba rely upon each other for the team’s success. Readers would, I believe, benefit most from After the Children by first familiarizing themselves with these lovelies & their backgrounds in two-plus previous installments (Several relevant short stories are free on the author’s website). Yet continuing this ongoing saga without said history lesson should nonetheless prove enjoyable since the novella’s title & back cover synopsis nicely explain their current adventure’s rationale.

Surprises, challenges, limitations, friendship, courage, perseverance & logistics, too, play roles in the straightforward plot’s promised happy conclusion. Maybe if the A-Team & the Muppet Show joined forces, shining brightly while questing in Middle Earth’s Mirkwood, but then the bad guys do their worst & when things look very bleak, just then, the plan comes together & our heroes win the day.

An impression, snippet & request: Without a journey, one would never arrive at any destination. “He was equal parts overjoyed & outraged, and by the numbness of his expression, the two feelings canceled each other out.” Please judge this book by its awesome cover!
