Short in pages & terse in style with frequent breaks/switches between characters, Nevada Noir paints a portrait of gritty crimes. No frills, Humphrey Bogart prose both sets the tone & cuts to the bone: “Funny how death followed you everywhere.” Readers must keep up with this rapid, almost non-fictional narrative to discover the shocking connections & repercussions between two separate crimes. Despite the complexity of Nevada Noir’s situations, the fatalistic plot’s rationality & logic preclude suspension of disbelief (minus one excusable time). And when it’s over, I bet you’ll say, “Wow…!”
